Mindfulness is when you are truly present, mind and body as one

The concept of mindfulness involves focusing on your present situation and state of mind. This can mean awareness of your surroundings, emotions and breathing—or, simply driving down the street and really noticing the car in front of you as you drive.

When your mind is connected to your body, you are considered in the present moment. It's that simple.

A SIMPLE MEDITATION PRACTICE

Set a timer for 5 minutes and practice staying with your thoughts

Mindfulness and mindset work is not a one and done thing. It must become a habit, a consistent part of your routine. The quickest way to begin working with awareness, is to work with yourself and your thoughts. In just 5minutes a day, you can begin to see why you are not your thoughts. You have thoughts, but you are much much more than them.

Over the next 5 days, take 5 minutes and try one of these activities, with the 3 steps below. To limit your distractions & time your sessions, try using an app like Calm. Focus on each theme for the duration of your practice, it's as simple as that. Ex] Body Scan: Start with your toes, and work your way up and notice all the sensations of your body.

DAY ONE: GRATITUDE & APPRECIATION | DAY TWO: BREATHING | DAY THREE: THE PRESENT MOMENT | DAY FOUR: BODY SCAN | DAY FIVE: EMOTIONS

Set aside the time. 

You don’t Need any sort of special equipment to access your mindfulness skills—you only need to set aside dedicated time (and space!)

Let your judgments pass.

When you notice judgments, distractions, or random thoughts arise during your practice; make a mental note of them, and then let them pass.

Be kind to your mind. 

Distractions, wandering etc is common. Let it go. Your job is to practice recognizing when your mind is off, and gently bring it back.

MINDFUL CONCENTRATION

While you breathe in, you follow your in-breath from the beginning to the end. If your in-breath lasts three or four seconds, then your mindfulness also lasts three or four seconds. If you continue like that, your breathing will naturally become deeper and slower, more harmonious and peaceful. You don’t have to make any effort—it happens naturally.

Then you cultivate your mindfulness and your concentration.

MINDFUL WALKING

For some, a seated meditation might seem unappealing; you can try walking meditation instead. Mindful walking, is an active practice that requires you to be consciously aware and moving in the environment.  This helps strengthen your concentration, improves your awareness and strengthens your connection to the present moment.

This practice brings you closer to nature and your body.

FREEING TENSION

Take a moment to tune into your body, and see if you can notice any tension. Stress/tension can take a toll on your body. Using your mind, you can release this tension. You can do this  a sitting, lying, or standing position. Sit back and practice the fourth exercise: “Breathing in, I’m aware of my body. Breathing out, I release the tension in my body.”

Peace is possible at that moment, and it can be practiced many times a day.

IN ACTION: THE MINDFUL BUSINESS

Whether the business of business, or the business of life -- mindfulness is the Key.

Mindfulness isn't just a practice regulated to a meditation pillow or focusing on your thoughts about happiness, abundance etc. You can use mindfulness to specific goals, and other domains within your life as well. My favorite -- business. In it's simplest form, business can be as simple as running and managing your day to day life. In more complex forms it's the actual practice of entrepreneurship.

Mindfulness can help you gain clarity and create strategy, and cultivate the mindset needed to execute your vision.

No matter how hard you try, you cannot out hustle a lack mindset. This lack includes anything from your money mindset, to your confidence. You have to do the inner work first. So often want to skip to the end, the wins, the successes, and the glory. We fail to have a true understanding or plan for how we are gonna get there, or the mental capacity to see it through. We start...and we stop...and we try to start again.
